Orange Power Look | Glamour Photoshoot

Only one day off this week, and of course I woke up at 5 am ready to do a makeup look!

I decided to mix things up with a new haircut and dye this morning.

What wakes you up early in the morning with a burst of inspiration?

Floral Photoshoot | Blue Fantasy

Makeup is a very important part of portrait photography, especially boudoir and glamour photography.

Not that a model must have a full face of makeup on, but that the makeup can make or break a shoot, as well as have shooting concerns.

📷

This eye makeup is very bold, and needed a light, bright set. When shot against darker backdrops, the makeup looked much more harsh, as did the photos themselves.

Mysterious moody portrait photography

Harsher makeup can still be beautiful, it just may not fit the theme of the photoshoot.

Darker makeup needs a brighter light/set to cut harshness.

An overdrawn lip may look disproportionate at certain angles and perfect at others.

False lashes may only show up in certain angles.

As we do our makeup or provide direction for the makeup artist, we must keep in mind the set, the theme, the mood, and the angles.

Portrait Editing | Simple Beauty Portrait

Before and after editing of an alternative fantasy beauty portrait

Editing portraits, especially camera phone portraits, doesn’t have to be complicated or too time-consuming.

Sometimes it’s just as simple as one or a few favorite apps to get your portrait photography ready to share.

My favorite portrait editing apps:

  • Lightroom: Create presets to get a consistent look across your photo shoot. Great for vignettes, lighting effects, color toning.
  • Facetune: Great for making details pop, adding our effects (including faux lens blur), lighting effects, healing, and textures.

The more simplified you can make your process, the easier and quicker it’ll be to create and edit beautiful photo sets without having to turn on a desktop and pull out a tablet. With a few apps, you can shoot and edit beautiful portraits on your phone or iPod!

What are your favorite editing apps? How do you streamline your editing process?
